Crooms AoIT Earns National Recognition as a ‘Distinguished Academy’

Crooms Academy of Information Technology is one of nine career academies to be awarded the National Academy Foundation's (NAF) distinguished academy recognition. This designation is given to a select few who have exhibited fidelity to an educational model that prepares students for success in college, work and life.

"This award is a testament to our teachers, advisory board members, and students whose hard work and dedication are what truly make our academy a success," said Principal Connie Collins.

2011 Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Community Scholarship

Dear Crooms Class of 2011,
 
It is with pleasure that the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association, Inc. invites you to apply for the Crooms AoIT Alumni Association Community Scholarship. As a way of congratulating you on making it this far in your educational career, we will be offering one (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior. Our group of contributors would like to recognize those who have continually performed well academically while still carrying a passion for giving back to their community and school. In an effort to encourage involvement and contribution in the community, we proudly present the requirements and application for the Crooms AOIT Alumni Community Scholarship.
 
The deadline for application is Friday, April 1st, 2011 by the end of the school day. Take note, this is the first Friday after Spring Break. The scholarship recipient will be notified before graduation. The Scholarship Application is attached and includes instructions on how to submit the scholarship. We look forward to answering any questions you might have and carefully reviewing all applications received. Remember, this application is only open to graduating Crooms Seniors, so your chances of receiving the scholarship are quite high - that means you need to apply :-).

Crooms' BPA Team Sees Massive Success at State Conference

Top students from Crooms Academy of Information Technology attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2011 State Leadership Conference, "Stand Out From the Crowd," in Lake Buena Vista, FL, February 4-6, 2011. The Crooms chapter members joined over 500 other conference delegates from across the state to participate in state level business skills competitions, workshops, general sessions, and the state officer candidate campaigns and elections. In all, 30 students placed high enough to move on to National Competition.

Coach Perkins Named SCPS 2011 School-Related Employee of the Year Finalist

Coach Nat Perkins has been named as one of three finalists for Seminole County Public Schools' 2011 School-Related Employee of the Year. Coach Perkins is a Security Guard at Crooms Academy of Informational Technology, where he has worked 10 of his 29 years in the school district. You may better remember Coach Perkins as the Boys and Girls Cross Country and Track & Field Coach.

In order to qualify as a Finalist, Coach Perkins was one of 67 School-Related Employees of the Year throughout Seminole County. These honorees represent elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, charter schools, special centers, the Educational Support Center, Facilities Services and Transportation Services. Out of this group of outstanding support personnel, three have been chosen as Finalists for the 2011 Seminole County School-Related Employee of the Year. Coach Perkins is the only School-Related Employee from the middle or high school level; the other two finalists are Debra Skipper (Eastbrook Elementary) and Debbi Pegel (Stenstrom Elementary).

These three finalists, along with all the other School-Related Employees of the Year, will be honored at the annual Recognition Program at Lyman High School on Tuesday, May 3rd. The program will begin at 6 PM, and the DISTRICT WINNER's name will be revealed that evening!
